Hi,
Couple of questions: I just got a really nice Mountain Man 85. Instructions indicate there was a special shovel (long gone) for cleaning out the ash. A conventional shovel really doesn't work. Anybody have a picture of what the original one looked like?
Obviously this burns stoker coal, but only lump (bituminous) is available within a couple hundred miles. I've been breaking it by hand, but has anyone built a crusher?
Thanks!

A few years back there were 2 combustioneer stoves and a homemade crusher for sale near me the pictures were not real clear. I think it had a 1HP motor that ran two beefy gears by belts one belt crossed its self to reverse direction. It was sort of like a pasta roller.

There’s a few posts on YouTube of homade rock crushers. I don’t see why it wouldn’t work for coal. Probably would be easier to make as it wouldn’t have to be made from as heavy of a steel as a rock crusher would.

I actually have that crusher that Carlherrnstein is talking about.
I will try to find the video of it. Works pretty slick. Made from a couple old planetary gears out of a big truck.
