Hi everyone I just picked up a Russo number 2 coal stove, it also burns wood. It is a tall skinny stove with a 5-7" window. Does anyone have any specifications on this stove? I was going to put it in my garage or kitchen. It has the circular grate. Specifically I wanted to know the BTU rating on the stove and square foot coverage. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

This Russo is a hand fed stove, I'm moving this to the Hand-fired forum so the hand feed crowd will see it.

Can you post a photo of the Russo #2 ?? The photo may help people recognize what it is.

Nice looking stove,, Do you have a good masonry chimney to hook it to?

I have that same stove Rob but always thought it was a number 1 Russo and could be wrong.
I don't profess to be any sort of expert on coal stoves so please accept my opinions as novice at best.
That stove is fantastic! I have it in my living room, probably hooked up wrong by the opinion of some who are more knowledgable, but I am honestly amazed by the heat this tiny stove puts out.
I load it before bed and when I awake 8 hours later it is still pumping out great warmth and just about heating the entire 1200 Sq/ft house.
I seriously advise against installing this little monster in a kitchen unless it is large or very open to the rest of your rooms.
As long as the O/S temp remains below around 30 this stove has no trouble keeping a great fire and it seems to make allot more heat the colder it gets.
I did find I had to be careful of over burning it and I did warp my shaker grate to the point of useless the first year I used it. I found a new grate and have since learned to keep the fire under control.
I don't know if new grates are still available for this stove or where we might find these parts today. Anyone who has a line on Russo parts, please guide me or us.
In my living room I have to keep a fan pulling the heat into the back rooms or we would be sitting in our birthday suits when it is zero out side.

Thanks Coal berner but the main problem is confusion.
The picture posted above is the exact stove I have and the OP is labeling it a # 2.
When you look at all of the parts at the links you posted they call the grate that looks like mine a #1 Kit.
In another recent Russo thread a member posted some very nice scans of the number 2 stove and thats not what we have as pictured here.
Is the poster in this thread wrong on the number of his stove?

My smaller one is a #2 coal, my big russo is a #2 coal wood combo. But they both burn coal and wood. It hasn't been cold enough up here to really run these yet. Its like 53 right now. I thought someone said its best if it's 45 or colder out.

That depends on how good your draft is in your chimney and what coal you are burning I run hand feds with temps
outside in the high 60s and low 70s if you have a good drafty chimney and good coal you can burn

Thanks RROB.
I think mine is the same as your smaller stove that you are calling a #2 Coal. Photo below.
Two years ago I purchased a new grate and basket for this stove and they called it a # 1 Kit, just as it is listed today and probably why I have the confusion.
I suppose it is even possible that a few Russo stoves take this same #1 Kit.
