Hi All , Know it’s a wood burning stove but think it looks beautiful so decided to buy it . My idea is to cut out the oven plate and replace it with a firebox out of mild steel 1/2” rods . Make a new ash box , fix the broken door pin. Line the stove with refractory cement , make a deflector plate , and make a adapter for the outlet pipe. And anything that else needs doing . Just something to keep my interest over the summer . It will be delivered tomorrow evening . Made in France in the 19th century , lovely ornate casting , almost looks Dutch in style. Maybe the wife might fall in love with it when I’ve done it and we will keep it . Have to swap one of my other stoves for it . Here are some pics this is the stove but not the one I have bought . Want to make it a multi fuel stove . See what you think 🤔

Wal, I think you have stove covid-4. No vaccinations for that bug.

Pretty heater. Inside pics when you get time.

This is what it looks like ( oven I think ) . Think I will cut it out and fabricate a firebox to be able to burn smokeless fuel or anthracite. These pics are from a stove that is up for sale , same model but not mine . Ps - Artie got a looooong way to go to catch up with you in the stove front 🤣🤣🤣😂.

Here it is - apart from a new ash pan and Replacing the broken hinge pins , + some stove cement to seal joints and wire brush the inside and polish her up I think she will be good to go 👍. Wife loves the stove so when I have finished her even if we can’t use her will keep her as a attractive conversation piece in the hallway . Thought I would need to make a firebox but it’s all there + the enclosed part is directly under the ornate top with the circular lid so you can fill her from there or through the double doors . Ps - anyone got any ideas about getting the hinge pins out they are broken in the cast iron hinge , don’t want to be too brutal trying to get them out in case I break the hinges . I’ve soaked them with penetrating oil hope that will loosen things a bit . Think they may be slightly tapered so need to get them out by moving them upwards ? Not got access to any heat but any other suggestions would be great 👍

With a pin punch, tap rapidly with a light hammer. Set up vibration.

The older the stove, usually the thinner and more delicate the castings. Use a light hammer with a pin punch as Franco recommended.
It will be better to tap out the pin if you can as the pin hole will still be in the right place.
Beware of brute force.

Absolutely, The stove is in great condition, no cracks or breaks or repairs , the last thing I want to do is break the hinge trying to get the pin out ! Are the pins tapered so it’s best to try and punch them gently out from below the hinge ? Found that it’s 3 pins that are broke so I’m going to replace them all . On my other stoves I have been lucky in removing pins and getting the doors off , never had a situation when it’s broken in the hinge before , just thought I would as as I’m sure other lads have come across this before . 👍

Hi All , Just thought I would give you a update on the stove . Had to drill out the hinges in the doors and on the stove (3) as the pins were broken . Bought cobalt drill bit which made it easier to drill but it was difficult to drill because of the hinge spacing on the stove was smaller than the cordless drill , so had to go on a slight angle . Used a angle grinder to take the tops off the pins in the doors then drilled them out . Made a fire grate to fit the stove , and also a new ashpan . Sealed up the joints inside the stove after sanding down and used fire cement on the joints . Bob my mate at work made me some new pins to suit the stove ( pick them up today ) . And finally I used graphite stove polish to polish the stove . Had the stove in the back garden to work on so lit a small wood/ coal fire 🔥 in her to burn of the smell of polish and seal the cement . Got a good draught with the make shift pipe and it was burning at a steady 350f for around 5 hrs .,So I like the ornate casting of the stove so much I am considering swapping my 1860 Columbian stove works parlour stove in the lounge for it . Have to make a adapter to suit as the flue outlet at the rear of the stove is 4 1/2” and the pipe liner in my chimney is 6” . Also the stove is larger so I will have to see if it will sit on the cast iron hearth plate that is already installed in my fireplace. Anyway here are a couple of pics in the garden getting it’s first fire 🔥.
