- Hand Fed Coal Stove: Franco Belge model 144.08
- Coal Size/Type: pea
Purchased a nice gun blue FB and had it running for 2 days and every once and a while I would smell burning coal. I suspected the coal bin cover on top needed a new cord gasket. When I stared to pull the old cord out the cover came apart. I cleaned it up and took the attached pictures. I have two questions. 1) I can't figure out how the two parts were originally put together? Pressed? Is it designed to come apart to replace the gasket? 2) You can see in the pics there are two channels that look like they might be to hold the gasket but for the life of me I can't figure out how they are to be used.
Any insight is appreciated
Tom
PS: The cover is parts # 43 & 44 in this explosion https://www.woodmanspartsplus.com/68/details/9381 ... /9462.html

Awesome. I looked at this same stove but in Connecticut, it was really nice but needed some TLC. Looks like it’s sold now and just thought....

It seems pretty straightforward. The two grooves for the gasket face each other.
The screws holding it together seem to be rusted out. There is also supposed to be a loop of metal through that upper slot to lift the unit by.
I will try to examine further today.

Thanks, I guess I'll drill and tap it for new screws. The loop of metal to lift it by is there and working. Just didn't take a picture of it.
I'm not clear on your comments about the two grooves facing each other?
Thanks

Do you think the bolts went inside the posts or are the posts whats left of the bolt? Reason I ask is the bevel in the bottom plate faces inside? I would think the female bevel would be facing out to accept the male bevel of the bolt?

The part that has 10-75 on it faces down.
With the unit assembled the 10-75 is visible on the bottom.

Here is what I see. I don’t see any part missing other then the rope gasket.
Based on the part diagram this is the lower plates bottom.

What you call a screw halo, I believe is the mark from the projection it sits on. The original screws have a smaller head than that
