When I got my Godin 3720, the sheet metal was rusted. I used steel wool to sanded it down. I taped off the enameled steel trim and painted it with a high temp black paint. I am new to using coal stoves, so I had no idea how hot coal stoves burn. I used Krylon High Heat Black paint. It is good for temperatures up to 600°. You chuckle now, but imagine my shock when my stove started turning white around the middle. I thought my stove was deteriorating. I found out the Godin idles at a temperature of 600 degrees.
Lesson learned. I have discovered Rust-Oleum High Heat Black paint. It is good up to a temperature of 2000 degrees, so I get to paint my stove again in the spring.

If you want it to stay black use the semi-gloss Rust-Oleum High Heat Black. The flat black Rust-Oleum High Heat turns dark gray-ish once it is fired. The semi-gloss stays nice and black.
