I decided to make a heat shield for under my Godin stove. It is an old 11" deep dish pie pan that I never use anymore. At the suggestion of Franco B, I drilled holes in the sides to allow air flow.....smart man.

It really isn't necessary since the ash pan is on the bottom, so the floor barely gets warm, but as an extra precaution, I decided to donate the pie pan.....it can't hurt. Besides I have to have the stove inspected by the Building and Zoning Department in my community and I want them to know I have taken every precaution to install it properly. As I said, it can't hurt.

....and it will be hidden by the ash bib.

If you're planning for an inspection, here is a link to some info that might be helpful.

https://inspectapedia.com/chimneys/Woodstove_Fire ... _Codes.php

Excerpt:
Floor Protection A non-combustible floor protector should extend at least
18" on either side of the woodstove. Some codes permit 12" clearance from the side of the wood stove to the edge of the floor protection.
18" in front of the woodstove
6" of air space between woodstove bottom and floor protection system.
Canadian standards [cited below] recommend the following floor protection:

Any combustible flooring or floor covering beneath a solid-fuel-burning appliance requires protection from hot embers that might fall during fire tending or ash...

You deserve all the credit for a neat job, and with the ash lip installed it can't be seen easily.

It is a coal stove. I should have mentioned it is on floor protection.
It is sitting on a 1/2" thick 3' X 5' cement board with 3/8" thick, 12" X 12" ceramic tile mounted to it.
The manual for the Godin 3720 says it should have 8" to the edge of the floor protector on each side, I have 10" and it says it should have 16" trom the door to the front edge of the floor protector, I have 17 1/2" to the front edge. I am not concerned about passing the inspection for floor protection. I just added the heat shield under the stove because Kentucky inspectors can sometimes be ridiculous. The ash door is on the bottom of the stove with 3" legs sitting the stove off the floor.
I should have pulled a Paul Harvey and given the rest of the story.

It looks very nice! Be sure to have your manual with you when the inspectors come and show them the specs ;)

I like the matching tile and angled front cuts

Thank you.
I have created a 3-Ring Binder that contains the English version manual for the Godin stove, the specification sheet, the instruction sheets for the support box and components and the chimney bracing on the roof.
Hopefully I provide more information than he needs.

Thanks,
Dee

I love cheap do it yourself fixes like that! That impresses me more than a $1000 fabricated part any day.

I'll never understand all the inspection stuff besides insurance companies. Just sounds like a fund raiser for the towns/counties/states. Its none of their business. Dont get me started!
