You can burn wood with the hopper in place, if that is what you mean by heat shield. I would recommend fashioning a piece of sheet metal to cover the front opening with the door open. A half inch bend on the top, hung over the door opening, will keep it in place. Otherwise the glass will get smoked up.

hey guys once again i would like some info on how to clean the outside of my finiky franco without leaving film behind. thanks everyone
