Hand Fed Coal Stove: Godin Le Grande

Post by Richtdow » Tue. Sep. 03, 2019 8:24 am

I'm looking to install a Godin 3731 in my living room. I'm having trouble finding a definitive list of what parts I'll need to go from the stove all the way to the end of the chimney.

I'm thinking right now I'll need:
1. Stove pipe elbow
2. 5" - 6" adaptor
3. Damper
4. 6" Stove pipe
5. Flat Ceiling, what do I need from here on?

I was planning on going with the triple-wall Duravent products from Home Depot in stainless steel, not galvanized. My biggest uncertainty is the chimney support box. Is it just a box that secures to the ceiling joists and allows the chimney to be placed inside of it for protection of the combustibles? Is it open on top and the chimney flashing covers it?

Thank you,

Richtdow

Do not use triple wall pipe. It runs too cool, encouraging condensation and corrosion. Use double wall insulated.

The ceiling support is as you describe. 2 x4 frame between joists, allowing the pipe to just sit in a well and be supported.

Go to a manufacturers or suppliers web site for directions and fittings for the make you are using..

Thank you for the information about the double wall insulated. You saved me from some problems down the road.
