I've been considering a hopper style stove for future use and found this one for $175. Any info on it would be appreciated. The good and the bad. The owner cannot find any model number on it.

Ask the owner if it has a rear heat shield. If it does the model number might be on the backside of the stove and he cant see it until he removes the heat shield.

$175 is cheap and a good deal but if it ever needs replacement parts, if they are even available, they will be expensive. If its going in a small room where it wont be worked hard you likely wont have any issues but if you have to run it 500+ degrees like I did you'll have issues.

I'd look the grate over really close cuz its likely a $300 part. The hopper could be around that much or more.

Took a while to find it on line. It's an Efel Montana 084.64. Couldn't find a manual in English. Parts are available but $$$. From the response I must assume it's not a very popular stove. I think I'll pass on this one. Maybe a Hitzer 30-95 will appear at a good price.

OK, the Montana is basically what I used size wise, lots of the same external parts, with a different door, grate, and a few other parts. Heres a manual that is the same as the montana's for clearances, etc. http://www.forum-chauffage.com/images/coal_manual.pdf

There were a lot of them made. If it has a side door it is a major plus. Thought I'd post this for future forum searchers.

Search on facebook marketplace for Hitzer. I found a 30- 95 in upstate new york for sale for $550. Not sure if youre willing to make the drive but here is the link. I actually messaged the guy and tried to talk him into keeping the stove as hes planning to switch to wood. Nice guy but I couldnt change his mind
