Hi , Always wanted a antique American baseburner stove for my house , buying one isn't a problem, but crating / shipping / import duty and 17,5% vat on the total cost makes it beyond my reach ( would be spending thousands of dollars to get it to the uk + the worry that it may be damaged in transit , so it's a no no . However there is a company in the uk that restores French stoves . He has for sale a la Phare stove . It is 5'6" tall, circular, and has mica windows all round . That was the reason I liked the American baseburner stoves , view of the fire at all directions. Just wondered if anyone is using this stove and can tell me the size of room it heats , fuel consumption etc .

Good looking stove Wal !
Is it a direct draft or a base burner? What is the diameter of the firepot?

You might want to send Pierre screen name Nortcan a PM. I'm sure he would be happy to help you out with the translation from French to English.

Hi I know it burns anthracite, haven't bought the stove yet , wanted to find out more about it , in terms of heating capacity , took the advice of Paul, and sent some information regarding the stove from a advert back in the day when they were in business, sent it to nortcan, asked if he could translate it for me as it's all in French . If when nortcan gets back to me and it forfills my heating requirements I will buy it . To be honest I like the stove , but nothing comes close in my opinion to the antique American baseburner with all the nickel and mica windows - but this will be as close as I will be able to get to owning something similar . Regards wal .

Hi received more information about the stove . Firepot 38cms. Hopper 39cms. Will burn 14kg of fuel over 24hrs . Problem is it will only heat a area 150m3. The area I need to heat is a lot larger than this so unfortunately I will not be purchasing the stove as it's performance is less than my existing stove . Plus the seller wants £4250( $5592) which is a lot of money . Oh well just keep on dreaming about them beautiful antique baseburners.
