I found this lovely French anthracite stove 4 months ago in a realy bad condition and I decide to restore her.
It was build between 1900 1935 in France-Paris by the famous company E. Chaboche. All cast iron body with exelent asbestos free fittings on the front door, top loading door and ash pan.
Holds about 15kg of stove sized anthracite, and can burn more than 20 hours before you have to refill her again.

You're going the right way with that restoration, the stove looks gorgeous! Are you done cleaning and repainting it now? Because I'd like to see pictures of the little thing restored to its former splendor!

Beautiful! The blue floral design looks great on that design! What is the purpose of the white handle on top?

Thanks! Maybe you can have a grate (grill) made somehow so that you can use it, but its nice looking even if you never use it.

Finally I found a way to fit the old grate to the bottom of the burn chamber so It was time to try some nut coal.
The stove holds about 8-10 kg of coal and burns fine! I shake every 12 hours when the stove is running on medium settings and every 24 when she idles.
Reloading vary from once a day to one every tho days.
The best feature of this beauty 100 years ago was that she can keep constant temperatures from shakedown to shakedown thanks to its "burning geometry". The coal is burning only at the lower layers of the chamber like a modern magazine stove, so when you reload fresh coal you do not have to wait to recover.
As I said above I tried some nut coal (20/30mm in Europe) even if this model designed to burn only stove size or anthracite ovoids. We will find out how she operates with the right fuel next week, when I will deliver three tons from Belgium.

Hi Georgelap
Congrtulation on your restoration of this stove.
Recently we were donated a similar stove and are in the process of restoring it (attached - original).
Would you have any ideas how to obtain or manufacture the front door glass pieces as well as the interior schamotte stones.
Thanks for any ideas

Hi etpal. Your stove is an original E Chaboche from Paris. The model is Louis XV.
To restore the front door glass you have to remove the back door grid. Then buy some mica and cut it similar to the shape of the 8 small windows.
Does your stove have the original grates? Most Salamanders have badly damaged grates because someone somewhere tried to burn coke in it.

Hi, I have the same "Re: E. Chaboche "La Salamandre" Louis XVI" that used to be my grandma's and it was her father's before that. I am not sure if it was manufactured in 1883 or in 1900s. How can you tell in which year it was produced and how much would it be?
