I'm looking at this stove and the plate on the front has "Down Draft" on it. Is this for burning bit?

Looks interesting!
I am not familiar with this make of stove. Maybe one of the more knowledgeable members will know.
Until then can you get more photos of the stove interior? That may help in determining what it likes to burn.
The name "Downdraft" makes me think it's a baseburner for anthracite coal. I see there is a control handle above the door. One way "OPEN" the other "CLOSED."
Good luck, it is a nice looking stove.

I see this stove is made by the Gem City Stove Company of Quincy, Illinois. It was noted in a post from a few years ago as 'one of the best" by one of our more knowledgeable members wsherrick. Click on the link below to view.

Probably not. They want a lot for it and I'm not a collector. They wont budge on the price, so since I'm unable to get the price down to my range I'll have to pass. I'm looking for something reasonably priced to use. I'm looking at a few other stoves too.
Thanks for the input guys. The owner wasn't sure what he had. He was under the impression it's for hard coal. Everything I have read about Germans seemed to suggest they were designed for soft coal. He also said he chrome plated the trim not nickel, which really doesn't matter much I reckon.

He's very firm at $2500. It is probably well worth that but just not in my budget unfortunately.
