This Surdiac is no more. Having been looted of it's precious internals, the rotting hulk awaits it's fate at the hands of some enterprising soul with a strong back, a truck, and a penchant for scrap metal. It's vital bits (hopper, fire basket, grates, ash pans, tools, window glass, etc.) will hopefully live to see another fire, extending the life of others of its ilk. If you need some Surdiac bits, PM me. More pictures can be seen here: Surdiac 616D Parts or Project

Alas all good things must come to an end .... if only the Pope could have made it over ... but unfortunately that was not possible.
I'm sure you will remember all the good times had in its presence.

Yeah, it's a shame, but I'm not going to invest the time, effort and expense to get it operational, and no one else was interested either, so out it went.

It needs a new exhaust manifold, $160 plus shipping from Meyers Furniture, + tear down and rebuild. Given it also wants pea coal (more expen$ive here), it didn't make sense for me to rebuild for local sale or use. I thought I could just patch the manifold and deliver it to Rev. Larry on my next Philly trip, but the manifold is too far gone for patching.

Myers has a heat exchanger for $160? I thought they went for twice that.Hmmm.
Man, Bruno, I just looked at your thread with the photos. That stove has some great parts. Too bad Tim can't use the hopper. It looks great in comparison. Plus all the tooling, and the grates. there should be some interest and money to be exchanged there. Keep at it Bruno. When the cold hits, the winter members will be on line, and maybe you'll get a bite.

No worries, I saved all the good bits, including the hopper. Scrappers picked the hulk up this afternoon - took longer than I expected for the vultures to circle...

Scrap metal is in the dumper now, 7 year low That is where I get my play money from Years ago, about 7 now I sold my Buderus 27 year old hand fed of similar design for I think $200.
Never looked back with new Keystoker 90, much better heat output than the European designs, remember they live in smaller homes.

Hey Bruno, I did the same thing with my extra 513. Stripped it down to its undies, and brought the carcass to the local metal recycler.
("Metal vultures", that's pretty funny)

Thx. Yeah, I wonder what the vultures will get for it. Didn't seem worth the effort for me to haul it myself. I can't imagine it was worth more than a couple dollars as scrap.

Maybe a good projectile for catapulting onto the white house lawn.

10 cents a pound around here. You might've got $20 for it. I collect all my steel scrap laying around, and make a trip a couple times a year.brunom15 wrote: Thx.
