Hello Godin Fans,

Running the 3721 Large Round in the back of the house and we are installing a like new 3733 in the dining room which is centrally located. Should have the stove up and running in two days.

My Large Round has one exhaust port, while the 3733 has an upper and a lower. Why the two ports? The lower one has a single vertical "grate" bisecting the hole. There must be a good reason for this, however I know my stoves all exhaust at the top?

The stove is in excellent condition, and has never been fired.

I fired the Godin with Cowboy charcoal and over the course of twelve hours, slowly raised the temperature. The stove had never been fired. I awoke this morning, and temps reading of 550F on
top, 450F in rear, and the side tiles read 250 The lower rim of the stove was at 100F. Basically, there isn't a cold spot anywhere.

Coal is still burning near the grate up to 1" below top flue.

I am running 5" pipe to 6" chimney.

In France I have seen the lower port used for an install in front of a fireplace. Exit at the lower port, short, straight pipe to a "T" in the fireplace. Bottom of the "T" for cleanout, top to the flue. Does yours have the exhaust manifold between the two outlets. If so, when you use the top outlet the bottom slowly fills with ash & fines. It is a good idea to clean it once in a while.

The 3733 is a pretty stove. What color is yours?

The Stove is enamel black, model 3733, has the tiles or you can remove them and there is a floral enamel painting on reverse side. The tiles absorb the radiant heat.
I just removed the tile, and stove is kicking heat.

Hi Guys,

Should I remove the tiles and go with painted sheet metal? I am not sure which is best... I am told the tile will retain heat, perhaps providing a more gentle heat flow.
Tile or all metal? I need to heat a portion of my house?

I would fire the stove with the tiles and record ambient temps at different locations in the house and then do the same without the tiles and then go with your best results. I have a feeling with the tiles it will allow you to sit closer to the stove and with time the radiant heat will heat the furthest places similar in both cases.

That is the exact model, color and tiles all match.... no kidding, the stove was never fired. It's from the 80's and like new...

It can really lay out some heat.... thanks again.

Hi Gents,

Before I fired the Godin, I noticed that shaker action was very stiff; I had to use a lot of muscle to push and pull the shaker handle. I assumed that the mechanism must be broken in. With the stove firing, I have to exert much force to shake the grate. I do not wish to snap the rod, so I have been clearing the grate using my specially made coal poker.

On the Large Round, the action is very smooth requiring no force, and the grate moves effortlessly.

The Octagon has never been fired before, is it common to have a rough shaker action on a new/like new Godin? Anyone had this issue? If so, how do I "fix" the action.
