Surdiac Coal Usage

OK, 6-7 hrs later, my daughters were up and said the stove had 1 coal burning (visibly...altho I'm sure there were more up in the hopper). After clearing the grates, and allowing fresh coals to drop, it was "rekindled" and a new fire is born. the amount of wood that I packed in between layers as recommended wasn't that much, and it wasn't hardwood either. So I can't say the method isn't effective.Tonite I will try a little more with something better to burn. Enjoy the day.
