Howdy all. I read through some of the forums about rebuilding some stoves. I've got my hands on a pretty nice Godin 3720 that is in need of the rear mounted - I'm gonna call it a "cast iron manifold". The cylinder part of the manifold got all rusted out (maybe from excess build up of caustic fly ash?) and it broke right off. I've been ALL OVER the net looking for info on the Godin 3720's and just found some for sale on ebay and other places. Where can new or used parts for a Godin 3720 be purchased? Please see the pics I have attached.
Thanks for your time and attention!!
Mike

Hi Mike,

Does that stove have an ID plate on it that identifies it as a 3720? The smoke box is from an older stove, the 2122. The 2122 is no longer in production but the 3720 still is.

The only reliable places I have found for Godin parts are in France or Great Britain. The stoves are still popular there. Try searching the web for Godin stove repair, some of the British companies will ship here.

The two tabs on your smoke box that hold the exhaust nozzle have snapped off. My guess is that the stove pipe was seized with rust and when it was "de-installed" a little too much force was used. If the rest of the metal is in good shape I would consider having the nozzle welded to the smoke box.

If it is a 3720 and you find a dealer in France or GB that is willing to ship here the part numbers are:

boite a fumee (smoke box) 14301373653
buse ronde (round exhaust nozzle) 14312372653

Drolet in Canada (http://www.drolet.ca) used to import the Godins for the North American market. Up to a few years ago they had a fairly extensive list of Godin parts on their web site for the models that they imported. Recently I searched their site and found no Godin parts there.

Hey this is a nice place to be, everyone is so helpful.
KaptJaq, The little aluminum plate is still fixed to the back side of the stove beneath the smoke box and it's quite legible. When I was cleaning the stove up a bit, the exhaust nozzle still had part of the stove pipe attached and when I went to pull that off (no hand tools used) the nozzle pretty much fell off into my hands (maybe why I got such a good deal??) I was on the Drolet site for a little while last night trying to use the numbers that are on the smoke box and came up empty there. If I read it correctly, those two part numbers you provided are for the 3720 and NOT for what is pictured on my stove?

Hi Mike,

The part numbers are for the 3720. This is the link for your stove's manual on the Godin site:

http://www.godin.fr/notices-siteweb/3720A_petit-g ... 38B-05.pdf

You can find the part diagram and part numbers there. Sorry but it is only available in French.

Apparently the 2122 smoke box fits the 3720 but you may need to replace all of the components (parts 9 to 13 in the diagram). The round exhaust nozzle was a separate part so that it can be changed based on the stove pipe size (english or metric). If the nozzle and smoke box are still solid and only the tabs snapped I still feel that your best bet would be to have the two welded together.

What shape is the rest of the stove in? Mica window? grates? ash door?

KaptJaq, I believe the stove to be in pretty darn good condition. I'm currently at work but have a few more pics on my camera at home. If you'd like to see some more pics, I'd be happy to post them later on tonight and you can give my your best interpretaion of the stove.

Drill it and pin it on the flange. Welding or brazing might lead to splitting on cooling. Why fool with getting new parts with all the hassle? The old part is perfectly good.

KaptJaq here are the rest of the pics I took.

FrancoB I have no idea what you mean by drill and pin it on the flange ... I mean, Iknow how to drill, but what am I to drill and what do I need to pin to where??

I found ONE place that is trying to locate parts for me, hope he comes through!!

Mike,

I am surprise at the condition of the lintel, grate, ash pan and other parts of that stove. They look like they have never been exposed to a coal fire. The fire brick obviously has seen a couple of good, hot fires.

The plate indicates that it is a 3720, certified to burn nut size anthracite coal in 1978. All of the cast iron parts show stove model number 2122. I know the 2122 had very similar specs to the 3720. My guess is this is a transition stove. Newer 3720s I've seen have the number 3720 in the places your stove has the number 2122.

I still feel your best bet would be to try to re-connect the nozzle and smoke box you have. Due to the modifications that were slowly implemented as they changed the model from 2122 to 3720 you may have difficulty finding parts that fit your stove.

It is a great little stove rated at 5kw (about 17,000 btu/hr). According to godin it can maintain a slow burn for 15 hours between tending. Good luck with it. Let us know if you find the parts or are successful at reconnecting the old ones.

There is a flange that the outer part slips into. The edge of that flange could be drilled and held together in the same way that the smoke pipe is. You could drill and tap or just pin with three roofing nails.

Well I did locate the needed parts which will cost me about $355.00 - At that price I'll disassemble the stove and bring the parts into work and have our master welder fix it up for me. I just hope that when fall rolls around and I fire up the stove that the weld will not crack with the heating and cooling of the weld. MANY thanks to ALL for the info and direction!!!

It should be either tig welded or stick welded  (tig is way better) with a high nickel fill rod like monel and the weld joint should be ground out so it is a open butt weld to get the most possible penetration then cooled slowly in sand.
