I just sold my Surdiac model MCK 690 and there is a rod on the back side that has numbers on it, it slides in and out and it goes to the rear center of the stove and it opens and closes air to the rear of the firebox, I never used this when I owned it, and the new owner asked me what it does, I wonder what it controlled,

hey chet That would have been your secondary air source it would increase your air flow more air more heat less air less heat you could set it to burn longer or shorter burn time like when you go to bed you would turn it down so it would burn threw the night then when you wake up you would turn it up almost like a thermostat
