That really doesn’t make sense to me. Why, as a business, would you turn away any customers. Silly people.

Have you ever been to a quarry or gravel yard? That's how the coal yards are set up. You weigh in get loaded then weigh out and pay. Their scales aren't set up to weigh small amounts the resolution of the scale is probably 50lbs increments.

Yes, I have and I suppose that makes sense. Regardless, they’d make a killing compared to what they sell it for a ton. I’d pay $50 for 200lbs. Way over pay, but it’s worth it to me. I suppose it’s more of a hassle than it’s worth.

If you go there you’ll understand. They load semis and rail cars. They have a hard time putting 4000 lbs in my dump trailer. They don’t even like loading it.

Where are you located and what do you burn?

Truthfully, what I really want are the “smokeless oviles” like they use in the UK. Can’t find that anywhere. Nothing even remotely close....

Decatur. I burn a little of everything. Wood, wood pellets, anthracite, bituminous. Even burned 60 lbs. of dog food in the pellet stove once.

I just started my first coal fire last night. I’m burning anthracite at the moment. I haven’t picked up any bit this year.

I would think you would want lignite for your open fireplace.

I can’t even find lignite coal anywhere. Anthracite is the only thing I can find. That’s at tractor supply.

I can’t see burning the bit I get in an open fire. I can barely contain it in a Warm Morning Stove which is made for bituminous.

This bit is quite Smokey and that smoke can ignite. When this happens it’s quite colorful...lol. That is a mild description. If that happened in an open fireplace the whole room would be filled.

Maybe somebody experienced in burning coal in an open fireplace will chime in.

Best of luck in your endeavors.
