Iron Fireman Stoker Problmes

I recently installed a rebuilt iron fireman stoker. Our old Wilburt finally gave out. The stoker seems to be working fine however it seems to be grinding the coal up to fines and pushing the fire out underneath. I end up shoveling out alot of fines, almost like black sand or heavy powder. Have played with the air etc but its not unusual for it to go out in an 8 hour period. The hold fire timer is good and working. And its been plenty cold to keep the stoker feeding. Any help or suggestions? Thanks.

We also wonder if the auger could be grinding up the coal during the feed process.

Absolutly could.
Coal size vs auger size can make dust and fines.

Worn or sharp looking flightings are not good either.

Piece of wood or rock jammed would need found and dislodged or removed from in tube.

Lots of discusion here about auger problems and solutions...bituminous and anthracite alike.
