Bit b coal needs air to burn properly. These stoves were not designed to be air-tight. So, whether it draws air around the doors or through the botton draft doesn't matter, you are still regulating the remainder of the needed air with the draft and damper. I personally would not mess with silicone, just butter your door frames with furnace cement and carry on.

I'll try it without the silicone and see how it runs. I suspect that gap will close up when thus gets hot. The area where the gap is the widest is also where the material is thinnest, so in my mind that will heat up and expand quicker then the rest of the door. I could be wrong and it sure wouldn't be the first time. It will be a good experiment. I can always add the silicone later if it runs bad.

I need to start looking for a baro. I've got about 25ft of internal chimney and I live where there is absolutely no wind break so I'm thinking I'll just start with one rather then try and add one later.

You must have a baro draft device!
If you use a Magic Heat unit, the baro mounts above it.

I kind of thought I would have a mpd then the magic heat, then the bar. Some of these might be horizontal though because I'm kind of cramped for space.

Well progress has been kind of slow. I've been dry fitting the top to try and get it so it will slide over the barrel easy. Cant see how any cement is going to be left in the joint after I get done wrestling this on the barrel. I'm thinking about just putting it on dry and forming a bead under the bottom lip and barrel. Had a photo opportunity.

Nice progress there!

For applying the furnace cement, place 3 or 4 thin narrow wood sticks or wedges around entire joint to be cemented, and then load furnace cement into a "cake decorator's bag" with metal nozzle and work your way around...after cement sets pull out the wedge sticks and plug those hole the same.

Actually, Lowes does sell those same type bags with different size tips or nozzle holes, for mortar joint applications.

BTW: Washes up with plain water :)

Thanks for the tip. I'll try that.

I got it sealed up and placed where I need it, now I need to know how many 90's or tee's are ok to use. I need to use 3 to do the job. It's a very short run as well. Unfortunately no room for my Magic Heat.

Well I have to pick up the materials in a bit so I'll get 3 turns and see what happens.

Well I only had 15 lbs. of coal on hand. I just wanted to test everything out. It seemed to go well. Kept the barrel at 325* for about 11 hours. I just went down and shook it down and it went out. Had about 5 or 6 unburned pieces left. Guess I shook it too much. I'll take the trailer to the mine tomorrow and get a load.

5 or 6 unburned pieces weren't going to go far on their own, it was going to go out even if you didn't shake it at that point.

seems to me you did pretty good. 1.36 #'s per hour with usable heat out put, that's a good first low fuel capacity fire.
