Your consumption with the bituminous will depend on many different factors, heat load, draft, coal quality, etc. I would venture to say that you would use a little less with anthracite but I don’t know if that’s enough to offset any cost.

What kind and size of bituminous are you using if you don’t mind me asking? There are all different varieties under the sun and each burns a little different.

It's stove size bit. I don't know anything about the kind of quality. I asked a few questions when I picked it up at the mine but those guys loading didn't know much about it. It lights off good, doesn't smoke too bad. I smothered it once and the smoke was white. The ash has some hard white dime size clinkers mixed in it. I ordered a BD a few weeks ago but it's been lost in the mail so they are trying to find it. It will be here just in time for spring.... Lol.

Where is this coal from , seems like central PA house

Bituminous coal 2" > fines ?

I burn this coal with excellent results , but it is a little too small

in high heat demands times , it also burns with a clear blue flame

and no soot in chimney or smoke from the chimney . I only

clean my chimney every 2 years or so.

For higher output I like the oversize from Valier Coal Co. .

It's from Viper coal mine in Williamsville IL. It burns yellow but settles down to yellow and blue. Small amount of soot. I'm seeing some black on top of the chimney. I get it pretty hot on reloads so I think it might be clearing the soot.

Where did all that heat go???

Is living room one floor up from stove location? Use fan on floor blowing down to stoves level and your heat will arrive up stairs.

Have you thought about moving the warm morning out of the basement and into your living space? 9-5 gallon buckets is a lot of coal in a 24hr time frame. The heat is either soaking into basement walls or going out the chimney. McGiever had a good suggestion with the fan.

It looks like really nice coal too from what I see. A little bit of undersize is a good thing but it doesn’t look dirty at all.

Ive tried fans but haven't tried blowing into the basement. I'll see if it works. I would like to have it upstairs out of the basement but don't have access to the chimney up there. I plan on putting in a 6" stainless chimney in the middle of the house this summer. I would like to leave that stove in the basement and have another upstairs. I wonder how the two stoves would effect one another?

I really think the basement is soaking up all the heat. My floors are warm but not much past that. To be honest I like having the heat in the basement as I have a small hobby shop set up down there and it's nice and toasty.

If you plan on burning bit go with 8 inch diameter chimney and connector pipe 6 can be a pain when it comes to soot.

I already have the 6". I wish I had known how beneficial 8" is when I was putting the adapter in my basement chimney. I sure would have used the 8".

I've made some modifications. It's kind of looking like a franken-stove. Got the magic heat hooked up too. It somewhat unorthodox but seems to work so far.

Having trouble setting the baro. I have an electronic manometer and it seems like its almost too sensitive. Bari is wide open and I can't get down to the -.02 recommended for the warm morning.

you can try putting a MPD in any section of straight pipe between the stove and the Baro.

shut the MPD and check the Mano. if it's still not around -.02 in the trough of any gusts then use the Baro. to take it the rest of the way down.

in your set up i'd try to get the first MPD in as close to the stove as workable in case you find the Baro. doesn't work out and you need a second MPD. or you need a second MPD and the Baro.
