Because not all of us live in Northeast PA , why pay three times more for the same heat. When burned right Bit coal can be just as clean as that hard stuff!

Much less $$, higher btu's, and less ash. In a stoker it's smoke-free. In a hand-fired stove it will produce visable smoke from the chimney, but it's no dirtier to handle or burn indoors than anthracite. I've had numerous long-time anthracite burners switch to bituminous after trying some- even for almost the same price! Why? as I mentioned, more heat, less ash, and most importantly to most people - if they're away and their boiler or stove goes out, when they return home late at night they don't have to sit around for a few hours and baby it; they can get a few pieces of scrap wood burning and load it up with bituminous, burn it hot for a few minuites and then fill the boiler/furnace and go to bed.

yeah good ole bit it does heat up fast. and after it burns a while hardly it produces any smoke.ive found if I add a little at a time instead of loading it up bit burns fairley clean and you caint beat the price. but hey I like the hard coal also sheeee I like any coal I can get

thanks lots .I know its hard work. even on the internet to find folks who sell coal to homeowners, I had no idea there were that many sources to buy from, this makes me feel more secure about where I can get my soft coal fuel supply next autum, once again thanks for the info

Got 2200lbs of Kentucky bit from S.M.J Inc. Wrigley,Kentucky at highway Jct 7&711 35 miles south of Grayson for 95.00 a ton no tax, hand picked or they will load,lump coal also have stoker.Hours are 8-4 M-F and 8-12 on Sat. Telephone #1-606-743-7111.The coal they sell comes out of Magoffin County. Another place I called in Kentucky was,Big Sandy Stone,they sell coal for 130.00 a ton plus tax.They are 20-25 miles south of Ashland,Kentucky in Louisa.Telephone #1-606-686-3000. Hours 8-5 M-F,8-2 on Sat.Coal comes out of Pikeville,Kentucky. And called one other place, Coalburg Dock in CabinCreek,West Virginia,coal comes out of Winifrede coal seam selling for 50.00 a ton you load by hand or they load 65.00 a ton.From what I gathered, it sounds like run of mine coal to me.Again thats just me.They are on Rt 61in CabinCreek off of Interstate 77 exit 95.Hours are 7-4 M-F closed Sat. Went to Sampson's in Owensboro KY yesterday and picked up a ton of egg and a ton of ROM, both were $85/ton. He has plenty of stoker at $75/ton. Mentioned he had 1 truck in Peoria Illinois delivering yesterday and 2 trucks in Indiana as well, all delivering stoker. Delivery generally adds $25/ton within a reasonable distance. He said this year it's from Henderson and #9 mines, same as last year.

I called Ben Hal last week and it is still $55/ton. Analysis is as follows:

I just got 2200 lbs. of lump from Valier coal yard Punxatawney, Pa. $85.00 ton.
Their lump is more like egg size with pieces ranging from Anthracite nut size to 8 inches across. with very little fines in it.
