We've been burning lump coal in the fireplace for several years. I usually just use a Duraflame log in the middle of the grate to start it, lite for about 10 minutes and then stack coal around it. It's primarily used for atomsphere. Puts some heat. Just enough to heat the room.

Very nice!
I am using anthracite stove size coal so I don't get the flames but do get enough heat to warm up our, always chilly, great room.

Just a little Christmas experiment.

Really, is it anthracite? I thought it was considered impossible to burn anthracite in an open fireplace.artbaldoni wrote:Very nice!
