Should be interesting to see what that unit brings. It's a good price at the moment.

I assume the missing parts are the timer and maybe the aquastat. Going with a cheap timer....maybe $200-300 for the parts.

I emailed the owner about this unit today. He told me he usually does 520 and 350's. Every now and then he does a 700.
He told me the last one he did brought $10,000.
The pics of the unit are awesome. He told me that the insided is as nice as the outside, spotless.
I talked with my friend in the stoker business and he said it's just to big for my house or I would be after it.

I would have made changes in my design before I replaced the unit.By: Freddy On: Tue Jan 27, 2009 7:57 am
How 'bout this one in Fort Kent Maine?

First, the problem is not that the unit is too small the problem is the distribution system probably or thought out.
was not well designed
Second, Zoning is critical having more zones, where not all are calling for heat at the same time will save you 20% of the capacity.
Second the 520 does not have enough storage of hot water when the pumps are turned on. The first return of cold water to the unit is probably too much for the unit . The temperature drops and the triple aquastat says it to too cold and shut down the pump until the water temp is up.
Solution add a secondary in line insulated water storage to be used in the winter which is heated by the Boiler at 180 degrees (Not just preheated) this way you have twice the volume of water to circulate. As the season get warmer it can be bypassed if valved properly.
A much cheaper solution than replacing a boiler.

I agree, my buddy has a 520 running 5 apartments and a bar, an office area, and a two bay shop (almost 10,000 sq ft in all). The secret is radiant floor in the apartments and huge radiators in the other areas, I would estimate he has over 300 gallons of extra water storage in radiators alone. It takes a while to warm up but he only uses 14 tons a year to heat the whole place and provide domestic HW for the bar/shop/office.EnergyManager wrote:I would have made changes in my design before I replaced the unit.
