Is it possible to add the oil burner option to a standard 520? If it's possible I can eliminate my oil burner and about 70 feet of interconnect pipe which will make my system more efficient.

It can be done but you need to know what your doing you have to cut threw both layers of bolier steel plate

I know the newer 520s come ready to accept an oil burner. There is a dual fuel kit that EFM sells, it contains a burner, insulation boards, etc to do it. You will need a cut template for the side of the jacket as well. Pretty straight forward.

If you have a 520 round door it would be quite a challange to turn it itno a dual fuel unit. You would have to cut through the outside and inside of the boiler and weld in a rectangle sleeve that accepts the conversion package. Since the sleeve would pass through the water jacket the welds would have to be water tight. Not sure if there would be a staybolt welded in that area. Being a welder I would be up to that challange if the boiler was laying on the floor and you were able to get the right position, but doing it in place would be a bear. Might be easier to find a square door boiler and replace your round door.

Well being that I don't know how to weld doing it myself is out of the question. I would like to teach myself to weld but this isn't a project to learn on. Oh well, it was a good thought. Thanks.

I came across a 520 round door that the guy put an oil gun in the round door. He only used it for oil burning.

I have a new DF 520 (with rebuilt stoker). I want to add an oil gun, mainly for when we travel. I see the oil gun has a BTU rating of 157,000BTU/hr. For my setup, this seems like a high rating. I was running 4 teeth and just changed to 5 with the cold spell we've experienced. Is there a chance that a lower BTU rating can be achieved with the oil gun? Is there a possibility of using my burner from my removed boiler (Bickett)? Any idea on the price of the kit?

You can change the oil gun output by changing the nozzle size. That's about all I know.

You are probably better off keeping your old boiler, the 70' of pipe will have little impact on overall efficiency. An oil gun in a coal boiler will not be as efficient as your current oil boiler.

Yes, a smaller nozzle (GPH rating) will reduce the BTU rating.

By changing the oil Nozzle from a 1.50 Gal Per Hour to a 1.25 or 1.30 gal per Hour you will save on fuel and reduce the BTUH. and your bickett oil gun depending on what model should fit in the collect and ring . check your PM's for more info

You can mount any Beckett oil burner and any firing rate you choose.
