Lincoln

Sorry.... forgot to put that in. Dont know the square footage but it is app. 52 long 36 wide and 22 high. Dissapointed in the photos though.... sure doesnt do the boiler much justice to its actual size. I think its shoulder high to me and Im 5 foot 9.

Not overly big but we usually only work on one tri-axle at a time so there is lots of room..... it is mainly a workshop Can get two of them in there if we have to.

I think that 1300 would heat 4 or 5 buildings that size  Just that one building barely puts a load on it. I leave it on the lowest tooth settings all year.

Put a water pump on a truck today and that 65 degrees in there felt damn good.

Plan is to insulate the old building that we park the trucks in and put up a few convectors in there just to get it above freezing in there. That is the same building the furnace is in now.

Thanks
Tyler

He He J.C. I love your posts :D

Man..... most of what you had in that single post it took me 10 - 11 months to learn.... and even at that there are things you just wrote that I didnt know....always look forward to your posts.

I knew that boiler was heavy.... We set it with one of the loaders and you could tell there was some weight there.

That reccommended Chimney size.... 12 inch..... We had to reduce ours down to 8 to go through the wall where the old furnace did. Suppose that hurts anything? It had a 12 inch nipple on the base but it was half rotted off.... so I made a new one that was 8 inch to get through our wall crock. Seems to work just fine.... never had a manometer on it though. It ran all summer long on the timer and its the same fire I started in it from the beginning.

The old pig just burns away..... Hasnt given us any trouble yet. I wish I knew what year it was made but the serial tag is rusted beyond readable.

Thanks
Tyler

Your welcome anytime you need info let me know If the 8" has been working then I would not worry to much but you
might want to check the draft with a Manometer and see what yorr pulling a 12" may save some coal. What is your stack temps get a probe thermomenter stick it in the pipe before the baro see what it is at. Do you won't a 12"flue rear plate for it. you can pop yours off and stick the new one in you will need 12" stove pipe. But if yor 8" is working you might not need it let me know Keep warm with that big boy . 4.118.4 SQ ft. is nothing for that furnace I seen 520 heat that much sq ft.
How much coal are you burning a year . are you using buck Is you autofill hooked up from the pic it looks like it is not .

5.760.0 sq ft is a little much for that efm 150  A nice 700 with a few modine heater would work alot better and you would use less coal a year. Plus you would have all the hot water you could need or use. ;)

Hey J.C.

Thanks for the info. Ill keep that in mind about the 12 inch pipe. I get a chance Ill test it and see what its doing.

Autofill?

What I have there is just a 55 gallon drum with a big hopper on the top of it. The hopper is as wide as our coal bucket on the loader. Probably holds an extra hundred pounds or so. Then I just take the loader and scoop off the stockpile and take it in the building and dump it in the hopper. Usually top it off every other day but it doesnt get down into the barrell to far. Yea J.C. we are burning buck. Seems to work pretty good.

Dont know what we have used this year. Never really weighed it. Estimate about 80-100 lb on a 20 degree day. Also depends on how often the big door is open.

Them 16x16 foot doors let a lot of heat out when ya open them

Sure makes for a handy furnace when ya got an entire coal yard right there :D

How many 1300's are in operation?? Do you know of any others besides ours? Id imagine there are a few. I wish I knew how many total they built.

Thanks
Tyler

Tyler when I said Autofill I was talking about your water Autofill on the boiler  .The first Pic looks like it is unhooked
with only a ball vaIve showing and a section missing :?: I know of 3 besides yours.
They made the 900 & 1300 up until 1986/1989 the 700 was done in 1974 or 75 . If you need Parts let me know .

Autofill on the water.... ah gotcha now.... what a moron I am

System is sealed off.... no water in the building its housed in. Just keep an eye on it and it has a low water shut-off protection if it ever gets to that point. Just two ball valves and hook the garden hose to it. May not be the best thing but it was probably the most practical.

Glad to know there are 3 other ones out there. Hope they are as happy with them as we are with ours. :D

Thanks for the parts line. Much appriciated.

I think coaljocky has earned the title of "BIGFOOT" having ensnared the' ton and a half ' fire breathing
blackrock burning 1300. EFM's gentle giant keeps humming along in another building safe from mother natures winter furry. It's 15 degrees outside my door right now; my 520 ran 8.3 hrs in the last 24 hrs, the 900 ran 7.8 hrs and the sun is out. Plenty of smoke in sight right now from the outdoor boilers within viewing range......no oil boiler running in my basement, but it's at 170 degrees thanks to the 520.
Coal berner has given us the specs, now Tyler, get a photo with a person next to the boiler....there is a "Bigfoot" costume down in Georgia I hear. Hide the control section of the boiler, Freddie and the boys will be dissecting your plumbing, wiring, and safety procedures.    :discuss: while you politely say: naw, not going there, they REALLY help us out! (Thanks guys)

Burning Coal is equivalent to the saying: "There is no substitute for cubic inches". Performs best without high RPMs, is efficient and cost effective AND has plenty of reserve power if needed. Don't need a 'tech in a white suit' with a laptop to diagnose the soot all over your computer controlled german boiler. (We do like those Riello burners however)
....now comes the replies from the 11,000 rpm crowd.....and I say: torque and horsepower aren't the same creature, but together.... Now, I hope this suggestion doesn't bring out the homemade boiler guys who created a 3500 horsepower 'power plant boiler' in the backyard....with a lincoln buzzbox and some 6013, that burns 2 tons per hour...heating all of NEPA through a single 24'" diameter pipe.....
Tyler, you have heard about the guy they called "boy", 18" ...... and a bucket of ...... (coal) and they still call him boy!!!!!!!!!! Charlie

Awesome looking unit!! We are in the process of finding some large stoker units to heat our greenhouses and store in central Michigan, we will employ a combo of radiant floor, radiator, and hot air exchange. Love the coal, have only a had feed now for the house and propane for the greenhouses and the store.....should be proPAIN  Can't wait for our install.
