How much coal did you burn this season ?
I know this was meant somewhere else, but I went through 5-6 ton, which is *ridiculous* for my home. Are others seeing this excess coal use, too?

Before saying it's a ridiculous amount, we need something to compare it to. How much do you usually burn? How much space are you heating (in square ft?) Are you also using it for domestic Hot water? Where about roughly do you live? Is the house tight and well insulated?...ect

Personally, I'm gonna use roughly the same amount as last year give or take a few pounds..

What would make your usage the same as last year? Considering how much milder it was is there something different? When you had the pipes freeze,.did you run longer to recover?

That's a great question. So I looked up HDDs for the closest city to me (Buffalo) and it turns out that this year so far is nearly identical to last year.. and some of the other cities within a 100 miles are pretty close to last year's HDDs also.

It is double what I normally use. I have a 1300 sf house, same insulation as the past 23 years I've lived there.

It sounds like you got some poor quality coal this year.

Ok, have you noticed anything different about the burning characteristics of the furnace? For example, did you need to change the combustion air setting or feed rate by drastic amounts? Did you notice it running twice as much?
