Probably -10 to -15 with high winds... We live in a brick 1940 Cape cod with zero insulation in the walls. The most we've actually burned was 130. It was set at 6.5 lbs per hour and ran for 20 hours that day. If I remember correctly, it wasn't real cold at 5° but was extremely windy.
Edit - It was actually -4° that morning... Here's the post discussing it.

So basically what you need to determine is whether your cost savings to switching to a more efficient boiler would be worth it? If you were dead set on switching but nervous about the cost difference you could possibly buy just a stoker unit for an efm or similar and modify your base to receive it, then you could have all your plumbing still intact! I don't think anyone would complain about having that nice big keystroker firedoor either. Stoker Don has done this several times. Watch his videos!

They are at best, a difficult beast to stuff a underfed stoker into. The keystoker is worth less as soon as you do it. It isn’t designed to take a pass thru auger design. You could probably have better results cutting a Van Wert into the opposite side of the fire door.

Was wondering if he has excessive coal consumption.

I have never heard anyone with an EFM say that they wished they had a Keystoker instead…but I have heard plenty say the opposite. If you can find a good used EFM, you could probably pull off the swap for relatively low cost.firetender wrote: ↑Mon. Mar. 27, 2023 9:05 pmThanks for the input. The other thing that is attractive is the auger feed. I have a coal bin because the first season I got it in bags and I am not a big fan of moving material multiple times. So the auger system would save me from hauling 250 pounds of coal every other day across the cellar to fill the boiler.

Planning to sell my k6 this summer when I can remove it! Stop advertising for efm or I'll be stuck with it! also while efm might get the award for most reliable/user friendly (I think) only the axeman can tickle the fancy of eccentric quirkiness that some of us have....
