I am in the process of putting things together. I placed the rings and snugged the bolts on the top ash ring to the Wind Bowl. With them tightened the rings are loose. Is the top ring supposed to hold them snuggly or are they free to sort of float in there?

It might help if we knew what kind of stoker your working on?
You profile lists a Hitzer stove and an Energy King. Not one of those I guess.

If the rings are cast iron, they should fit loosely to accommodate any expansion that will occur when they get hot.

I'm sorry about that. Yes, thanks Rob its my VA600. Thank you too Don, make sense about expansion. I'm getting real close to firing her up. All plumbed on shop end. Now to finish putting unit together and plumbing up at the house. Can't wait to be done with this wood fire.

There’s a 1/4” gasket that goes between the top plate and the ring stack. It holds them snug. If they aren’t snug, then something else is missing.

I bought a new top ash ring from Marks. It came with gasket attached to it. I will say its an SOB to work in there but I stacked all the rings staggering them like I've read on here. w
When I put ash ring on top I snugged the bolts and the ring stack can be moved around? I did notice some of the rings were different thickness's , some thicker than others ? Is it possible some have shrunk?

Is there a gasket between the base and the wind bowl ? I was not sure so I put about a 1/8- 3/16 bead of red silicon on and left it dry before assembling. It may not have compressed enough causing to much height for top ring to fit properly? What's the proper seal?
