I would bet after settling in it’ll burn around 75-80 pounds per day during normal weather.
It’s to bad you fixed most of the issue with the zone priority, and then you’re gonna help more with the DHW plumbing…. I’m all for switching people to coal but I don’t like when it looks like coal was the saving grace and it turns it it was maybe only 20-40% of it.
I will keep you guys updated on how much coal it uses. The S130 is actually putting more BTUs into the house than the oil boiler was, so we will have to see how it shakes out.
As to your second point, I know what you mean. I could have fixed all of the performance problems with this system for short $. However in this case the main goal was to slash the heating costs. If I had just fixed the heat delivery issues it may have increased the heating bill. They would have been warmer, but that was not what they asked for.

Ive been running a coalgun for 4 yrs now and im always amazed when i start it up how nice and warm the heat is, i didnt have central heat for the longest time. I always think the colder it is the less coal you perceive to use with efficiency going up.
A very easy boiler to maintain and clean as well.

120 lbs in the last 24 hours. Most of that was likely burned after midnight when the temperature dropped like a rock. Currently -16 with roaring wind. I expect it will be over 200 lbs tomorrow.

wow! great that its handling it, it is absolutely brutal out! id be curious to know how much and often it is firing.
for today mine is firing for 20 minutes every hour, -17 with a -39 windchill.
on a normal winter day, it fires 15 minutes every hour.

It was pretty warm until late last night, but wow is it bad right now. I am seeing the same temps as you and my efm is running almost nonstop.
I have no idea what the cycle time is frequency is on the S130. The house is warm, so they just add coal 1x per day and leave it at that.

Most of the “classic” coal boilers reliably achieve their output rating and have plenty of extra capacity for an average 2K sq. Ft home. With modern construction you are more likely to run into capacity issues making DHW than space heating.

That’s not bad considering how cold it was!

Agreed. At -15 with roaring wind it has its hands full, but that is a once in 2-3 year occurrence.

2 week update on the S130. 1440 lbs of coal burned, 590 degree days during that period. Looks like it will use about 9 tons per season.
