No, it shouldn't have a "lot" of play left and right. Can you see the nylon screws on each side? One side should be screwed all the way in and the other should be backed out just enough to keep it centered and moving freely without binding by twisting left or right. Was there a lot of dust or fines in the back of the pusher bar?

It sure wasn't helping... Clean always works better!
These guys have a whole series on YouTube on repairing the feeder system for these. Here's one in the series

Here's the link to the heatinc100 website page. It's easier to navigate than their YouTube videos

Those screws can sometimes be found at Lowes but McMaster Carr should definitely have them. They can be snipped off to 3/4" if you can only find longer ones. Make sure the nylon cam is in good shape. It can melt a little and with those screws missing or melted, the cam should be checked.

A seven-second hand-pull-away is about 115-120º F. If this touch-test is the leaving water pipe - the boiler isn't hot enough. If the boiler isn't hot enough and you are burning fuel - it's either too little fuel or too much of the heat is going up the chimney.

When I looked at the house last year the basement where the coal stuff was about 85-90 degrees and the living space was about 80 degrees. I can’t seem to get the basement now hotter than 69 degrees and the living space about 67 and it’s only 40 degrees out side. Can I please have help I also can place my hand on the top of the stove for about 7 seconds before it burns.

Correct size is better, but if it's the same RPM and you can make it fit, why not try it...
Now that the grates have been sanded smooth and all those fines vacuumed out of the feeder throat, the old stoker motor may work. Especially if you were able to oil it. Not all have that felt port but you could try to oil the shaft above the motor section. Those new screws will also help to keep it from binding up.
