I build my own caps for my masonry chimneys out of angle iron and expanded steel mesh with a stainless domed top part. Wonder how long I can expect them to last. Would building/ welding on a new top fix yours? Wonder if you could build something better then what you can buy?
It's a Selkirk chimney. I have a 6" one out of the basement. I bought the whole chimney used with the cap many years ago. It's been up for about 8 years now and the cap still looks good. I guess if I really wanted to solve this problem, I could just buy the correct cap.
