At one time Keystoker offered something called “The Keystoker Chimney”, I think that is what we are seeing here. In addition to the things already mentioned it would be a good idea to check the draft.

If that sounds sarcastic, it's not. I'm impressed by the depth of your knowledge.

Not mentioned...air in system may cause little to no circulation/flow...purge air to have solid volume of flow thru baseboards.

As for the scalding DHW...we see a thermostatic mixing valve that should have that under control...may need attention??

So, Just bought house in upstate NY. So far 1100 pounds since Oct 27th for an 1800 sqft house. I made sure my high Low wasn't too high, it was and still is set at 160 to 180.
Iv used about 1000 pounds since mid oct this yr already and im south of you. So that s not too far off. It was crappy coal but its been unseasonably cold lately. I have 4 ton of very good coal left for the remainder of the winter. Also Ck that flue ,i have to shovel the fly ash out if mine regularly.

Considerable fly ash accumulates in my flue as well. its surprising how much makes it through 2 90*s to get to the horizontal run.

Depends on the coal ,some yrs i only have to do it once a season. One year i had to do it for every ton burned, about once a month.
I just did mine and it was 60% blocked coming out of the boiler ,50% in the 45 degree pipe after that.

oh wow. Mine has never been that bad. I will run 4-5tn through it and at the end of the season there will be 1"-1.5" that i clean out. 8" flue. See how it goes this year. it will be the first full season on Blaschak.

I live in Apalachin, NY just west of Binghamton so technically upstate but not up up state but cold enough.
Welcome. Those of us up North would say you are in the Southern Tier....and those in NYC think we are both in Canada.

Don't get discouraged with your boiler. With some simple changes it will be running good very soon.

Could you please post another picture of this area so we can better see the piping? I am trying to figure out how these two boilers are hooked together.

That power vent could be part of the cause of hi coal consumption . ie; Sucking the heat out of the boiler , and sending it up the stack.

. So last night the CO2 alarm went off, I didn't have the ash door tight enough.
Seeing that you have a power stack vent pushing positive exhaust air downstream toward topside to chimney exit, your gasket imperfections at the ash door would not allow a backup of stove fumes unless fan quit or failed. So finding CO leak still remains to be found.
However that gasket imperfection at the ash door (negative pressure) does allow a surplus of mostly unregulated combustion air to enter past bad gaskets in to accelerate the fire in proportion to whatever draft the fan/chimney air is being pulled by. Bad gasket will allow little if much any fire taming control so yes you are sending too much heat up your chimney and that wastes coal!
