Has anyone ever run corn or wood pellets through a 520? I know some use a 50/50 corn coal mix, but has anyone ran just straight corn or pellets? I'm going to go broke this winter with the price of anthracite!! FJB
THANKS!

If someone had a truck, was willing to run 8 to 10 ton from any three of those mines (Jeddo, Sherman and Superior) to much of central Pa and made it known on the forum they'd be busy most all winter.hardcoalhardcore wrote: ↑Fri. you could rent a small dump truck, quick search of lancaster county showed they cost about 275 a day to rent. 3 ton the f-550 holds. says it has a coal chute.BunkerdCaddis wrote: ↑Fri. I'm not a math wiz, how much would you have to move with that setup to be cost effective? $275 plus taxes, etc. And fuel costs. I guess it would still be cheaper than Lehigh per ton.

My coal man is getting 380 a ton for blaschak now. 300 for truck rental, 6 tons of coal (2 trips) 200 ton for coal 200 for fuel, that comes out to $1700. 6 tons delivered $2280waytomany?s wrote: ↑Sat. But the risk is renting the truck and unable to get 2 or more loads in due to shortages.
I gotta get a newer truck that can haul a ton and get decent mpg and a small trailer with brakes that can haul a ton or two.

Instructions for Burning biomass Fuel in the efm DF520 Multi-fuel and the AF150 Multi-fuel Furnace:
The biomass fuel that has proved best for use in the efm DF520 and AF150 is a mix of dried corn and wood pellets. A mix of 30% corn and 70% pellets is recommended. The initial feed setting should be 10 teeth of feed and an air setting of 2 or 3. There is very light smoke emitted from the chimney. The fire burns cleaner at an air setting of 3, but is slightly less efficient than a setting of 2. Mixtures of 40% corn/60% pellets also burn well, but require slightly more air and therefore will be slightly less efficient. 50% corn/50% pellets also burn in the stoker.
50% corn/50% coal mixes have been used successfully in the past. There are plans for future testing for mixing other grains with pellets, such as the waste products from a granary operation.

To everyone on here I have my own dump truck and I live about 40 min from sherman coal. I could probably fit around 3-4 ton on my truck and would be more then happy to help out fellow forum members!BunkerdCaddis wrote: ↑Fri. So doing some quick simple math... and using the fuel Comparison Calculator, corn@$7.00 local cash price is $273/ton is $2206 1mBTU. wood pellets at HD cost $308/ton is $2488 1mBTU. Coal at $400/ton is $2000 1mBTU... Why you would bother diverting still mash into your coal stove is beyond meRichard S. wrote: ↑Sun.
