Well, its staring to chill down, so its that time. Just had the bin filled with 4 ton Pea. This is the last of my suppliers coal from last year. This load was 280.00 per ton. Was told to expect 350+ for next load. Getting the boiler all cleaned up getting ready for light off soon. With oil at 4.50 per gal in West central NJ, I may light it off early this year, normally wait till November.

Thanks, good to be back at it. Nice trailer, how much can that haul? I may need to start thinking about getting one.

Well we have ignition!. Weather gut called for low of 39 in Ringoes, so 10/9/2022 starts the season for me. Cleaned old Betsy out real good, and pulled the trigger. God bless all all on our coal season in these uncertain times.

A hair over 6 ton I loaded up before the coal scare price hike and paid 215 a ton…. Got it out at harmony…. Burned blashack for awhile but since changing coal I had to play with my ash temp seems like the harmony coal burns up a bit quicker than blashack…

Wow great price. I may have to get a trailer. Just weighed ash after 4 days, using 13 percent gives me
Date Days run Lbs ash Percent Lbs coal Lbs per day
10/9/2022 0
10/13/2022 4 34 13 261.538461538462 65.3846153846155
Going to turn Boiler down to 170 from185 to see if i can save some coal. Right now not much heat demand, but also heating hot water for house.

I run my boiler at 160 most of the winter. You do save coal by running it lower, especially if the boiler is in an outbuilding.

Lol … sounds better for sure! Since using harmony coal and it seems to burn up a bit quicker than blashack and increasing my ash temp from 113 to 125 and I’m using less coal and the ash is burned more complete …figure that out head scratcher for sure

I have never gone below 118. I can not see any red glowing at 125, unless after the fan has run. But it has not gone out, and seems healthy. Have to see what the ash looks like.

Well just had 1 ton delivered for 360.00 vs 240.00. Could have been more. Still way cheaper then oil. Burning about 80lbs per day now as the temps get to 28 low outside. So far no issues running good.

Low temps average about 30deg last few nights, high average low 40s. 30 hours of run time gave me 18lbs ash, so using .13 gives me 138.46 lbs coal used at 4.61 lbs per hour. Boiler set at 165 on 10deg differential, house at 69deg.

Tonights ash removal, gave 15lbs in 24 hours, for 4.8 lbs coal per hour. Cant wait to see what happens with the deep freeze coming Christmas week end. Funny, when we were young, bad kids got coal for Christmas. Guess now i need to be real bad as a few ton would be a great present.
