Installing a 2009 -260 in a outbuilding that once housed a Mahoning OWB. I used the Mahoning for twenty years and rebuilt it once. Very inefficient burning 16 ton of soft coal last winter and had to go out and fix the fire two to three times a day. Decided to purchase the 260 last March just before the hard coal prices started upward. Have been working on the shed occasionally, insulating and installing the board and batten. Set the boiler in this past week .
I have tried to read most of the AA posts and they have been very helpfull but I’m sure I will have some questions as I continue. Here is what I have so far.

Welcome to the forum B D!

That's a nice look'in 260 you have there.

What part of the world are you in?

I guess you've probably seen it but we replace a Mahoning 500 wood boiler with and Axeman 130 a couple years ago and it is still working great!

Thanks Don, we are 40 minutes west of State college in Clearfield county. Don’t think I will have to do much to it . The fire ring appeared to be warped or bent and broke a couple of the welds but was an easy fix. Yes that was a inspiring install with the Mahoning .

Your gonna be happy! My 260 is a beast when it needs to be, and requires very little attention.

I was able to work on the 260 today. Had some trouble remembering were some of the spacers went but that’s typical for me when I do mechanical work. I usually have parts left over. Hopefully I can get the rest of the mechanical painted and installed tomorrow.

That 260 will handle that much and ask for more.. Will you also be heating domestic hot water with it? It's more than capable..

Beautiful job restoring it.
Looks awesome :D

Lightning,
Thanks , trying not to get too carried away but I want it to look good for a little while anyhow. It will be tied in to the oil boiler in the house that has a domestic coil and then goes to the electric hot water heater. I have about a 150 ft of underground to get to the house and have some heat loss there .

What are you using for the underground run?

1 1/4 pex insulated with closed cell spray foam. Made the mistake of trying to make it myself instead of buying the good stuff. I think I could be losing up to 10 degrees but I’ll get a better idea when i add some temp gauges before I fire up the 260.

I hope not! That would be a huge load all by itself.

Yes , a lot of wasted coal. Need to place some in line gauges so I can see exactly what it is. If it’s too bad I will dig it up next year.
