Have any of you resorted to just buying a sheet of sheet metal to lay
on the sloped part of the hopper to make it last another year or two?
I have holes in it where it has rotted through and spending $275.00+ tax
and shipping on a hopper made smaller in length for my stoker is still
hard to take.

No, I do not have a picture of it but if you can picture a green wall
with holes in it that has a white residue dripped/dried out of them
that is what it looks like.

Your idea seems fine, but I agree that you should use a material more resistant to corrosion - otherwise you will be doing this again in a few years.
Drying your coal out better would also help.

Or even aluminum. Absolute best solution is to burn year around if your draft is sufficient. My 7 year old hopper looks brand new from the outside with all the paint worn off on the inside. Inside is shiny with zero rust or corrosion.

I am going to order some blue stripe slick sheet leftovers from Horne Plastics
after thinking about it more.
I can cut the blue stripe plastic slick sheet to fit the interior of the hopper and
bolt it to the sides using grain elevator bolts that I have on hand.
