I recently shut my boiler down for the summer. I planned to keep it hot all summer, but with no calls for heat, the fire kept going out. I cleared out all the ash, scraped the heat exchanger, and vacuumed it all out. I sprayed the firebox through the peep door, the hopper tube, and as best I could from underneath with fluid film. I also sprayed the heat exchanger while the electric motor was removed, and I sprayed inside the exhaust area, including the cone. I kept the chimney pipe off, and closed up the unit. Are there any other measures you would suggest that I take to best rust-protect the boiler aside from lighting it?

I put it right on the stoker, but I imagine either location would work. The idea is to keep the boiler just a tad warmer than the ambient temperature. That way when there are fluctuations in temperature or humidity in the basement you don’t get condensation.Trumpeterb wrote: ↑Thu. Jun. 30, 2022 10:16 amIn the firebox area, I assume, yes? Or in the ash collection area?

I would put the light bulb on the ash sled. Also, stuff some fiberglass insulation at the exhaust breech and hold the draft break plate closed with something.
