Anyone know what spring is used for the sight door? Mine looks damaged and wont let the flap shut when the blower is turned on.

If you don't have it full of coal and ash the door will not suck shut no matter what spring is on there.

You have a problem. The fire tube should be half full of ash when you start a fire. You can't start the fire on the grate.

I just put the boiler in and added coal to the hopper. No ash since it hasn't been ran yet. I was going to light it through the sight port as they show how to.

Your going to have problems with the fire. Use a "DON" stick to see that the fire bottom is half way down the tube once it settles. A metal rod, stick it in for a while when running and it will show you where the base of the fire is. You need half the tube full of ash for proper function.

So in otherwords, ignore the current flap arrangement until established fire?

Hello Metallica 21156,
Is your barometric damper level and set up for solid fuel?
The weight for the flapper door needs to be in the right slot for solid fuels
and all the way to the right and then tightened down and locked in place.

Please do not follow this absolutely horrible advice... You put the weight on the right side when the barometric damper is installed in a vertical pipe and use the left side when in a horizontal stovepipe. To set accurately, use a manometer between the stove breech and the barometric damper. -.06 is a typical target but the AHS manual states it should be at least -.04. you use the weight to adjust it per the reading on the manometer. If not using a manometer, I'd set it at -.06 per the markings on the baro...

After reading this I realized my baro was wrong. It was always on the left side. I made the adjustment.

Thanks

I just installed my own and have a nut on the boiler side to adjust spring pressure.

Ahhh!!! But didn’t you just have a problem with that, hrmmm. Maybe a proper spring would of avoided that???

Member *Freddy* did that.
It was in regards to a anti-puff-back device.
