Hello ldorah,

Here is a link and neat story about steam from Dan Holohan for you to read.

heatinghelp.com/systems-help-center/steam-velocity/

Dan had written two very good paperback books about steam heating;

"WE GOT STEAM HEAT" and "GREENING STEAM"

You can order them from Dan through his web site www.heating help.com when you visit the bookstore page and buy them from him directly safely with a credit card and he or his daughter Erin will ship them to you. All profits go to the author as there is no middleman like amazon to deal with.

You can join the heating help forum for free and ask questions about heating and plumbing and read the stories that Dan talks about in his books and pod casts on the forum.

Just picked up my second load of pea coal a couple of days ago. First load was 2.7 tons and lasted from the end of October through mid February. This load is 2.6 tons and will easily get me through the summer and into next October again. Heading around 2200 square feet with 4 radiant zones through the floors upstairs and 4 radiators downstairs.

Yesterday I had 4 ton rice delivered. I usually burn 5.5 ton a year with running it for hot water in the summertime.
The bin is in the back of my garage, and they use the conveyor. Here is a picture.

Well as of today I finally shut the Allen Stoker down for the season. If memory serves me right I think my total amount for this heating season was around 10.5 ton this year. Heating 3500 SQft heating to 70* and the DHW. I personally don't think that's to terrible for a leaky old farmhouse, been running since October. I also am proud to be in the 1 match club this year as well!

I also did burn about 1600lbs in my Gibralter stove for the days in the single digits and teens.

Next year i will try to keep better track on my usage and make some insulation upgrades.

Figured Id start this thread up again for the 22-23 heating season. I said I would do better at keeping track this year but so far i have only saved one weight slip :lol: That being said I think I have put about 9.25 ton in the bin this year and I feel it will take 3-4 ton more to make it through heating season. This does not include what I burned in my hand fired ( I may have used a half ton in the hand fired this year. I will say i have sure hauled alot out of sherman this year for fellow coalpail members about 32 ton total!

Sounds like the house we lived in as kids. lathe and plaster walls, windows with the weights in the walls. And if the power was out the candle flames would flicker all over. :clap:

Don't be too upset with yourself my replacement windows are over twenty years old and leak worse than the single pane ones I have . Moreso because they don't fit as nice as they should:-/
