A friend of mine recently got this K22 running in his truck repair shop, which is about 22,000 sq ft with high ceilings and many large overhead doors. Previously they had two large waste oil boilers, but could never get enough waste oil to keep up with them (and the waste oil burners are loud and use a lot of compressed air). They replaced one of the waste oil boilers with the K22, so now they can burn waste oil as they choose.
There is a huge radiant slab and a large Modine heater. Last Tuesday when it was -8 here he said it burned about 400 lbs in 12 hours. They have men in the shop 7 days per week, so the 12 hour tending schedule in bitter cold is not a problem. They can also fire the waste oil boiler to assist if needed.
For those not familiar with the K22, it has a 14" flue pipe, holds 188 gallons of water, and is rated at 448k btu/s per hour.

Really makes you think about how big buildings are heated, especially tall skinny ones (sky scrapers or whatever) that have so much surface area exposed. Our shop was only 5000 sq ft two years ago and our six CNC machines put out enough heat to where the air conditioning couldn't keep the temp down so we opened the doors when it was 4 degrees outside....man I need one of THOSE, make money and heat! Thanks for sharing

Just think of opening a bay door and pulling out a thermally warm truck and in with a frozen one. The heat loss from the swap alone must be crazy.

Every evening they drive 5 tractor trailers inside loaded with frozen wood chips or logs.Holdencoal wrote: ↑Sat. Jan. 08, 2022 8:45 pmJust think of opening a bay door and pulling out a thermally warm truck and in with a frozen one. The heat loss from the swap alone must be crazy.

My post before DonS of me asking how many grates in K22 disappeared and his popped in...WTF
I’ll answer my own question...K22 has 9 grates. K6 has 3 grates for comparison.

Thanks for the video and information. Wonder how much SOLAR that would take to heat?

The runner up has to review again and then hit "Submit". Sorry about that Mac, it happens to me pretty often.

I got to see the K22 this morning to solve an outfire problem. Got about 2 five gallon pails with of fly ash out of the stove pipe and found the ash door not closing correctly due to an issue with the latch. Cleaned pipe, fixed latch, and adjusted the feed rate a little. We will see how it does.
