As your fan runs more often the grate will be able to run more and reach setpoint.

Hi Rob I am burning roughly 80 lbs of coal in 24 hrs. Seem right to you? Radient floor only.

Update...grate temp is now running around 100.. gonna keep fiddling with the timer.

I think that is a bit on the high side compared to what most of us are burning right now, but if you have a big house that would explain it.

Hand Fed Coal Furnace: Harman SF3500 reduced down to 3 grates connected to its own plenum
Coal Size/Type: Rice, Chestnut and whatever will fit through the door on the Harman
Other Heating: Noth'in but COAL! Well, Maybe a little tiny bit of wood

It sets the grate movement time while the induction fan is running.

Right... can't get more than 100 on the grate. Had to find another way.

Your the first ever with the problem of not breaking over 100*F on grate.
And can you keep from having to relight the fire often?

OH, I SEE!

This is one of the older units where they tried to control the ashing with a timer rather than ash temperature. I'm not an expert on the AHS or anything but I've never heard anything good about that timer system. That's why they only used it for a few years, then converted to temperature controlled ashing.

I hope you can get it working correctly. If not, it's not very hard to convert it to temperature controlled.

Enough time to never have an out-fire but NOT enough time to have bottom ash temperature raised above 100* F.
