Finally finished all the cleaning. Was not hard to do. Fixed a few minor drips. Modified my baro to a type rc. Also install some sheet metal 1/2 up baro t pipe, to help with fly ash, as was suggested. Kind of like what axeman has in their install diagram. She fired right up, and is working great. Love coal. Total burned last year was 8 ton. Hope to do a little better this year.

nothing new yet. I am planning on a heat exchanger for dhw, and putting together a rasberry pi, monitor system together. I was given a boiler mate, so I might try hooking that up.

Producing your DHW with the 260 won't save you any coal, but it should save you some $$. How are you producing DHW currently?
Have you considered insulating the piping in your outbuilding?

Rob, I did wrap the pipes, have a small section unwraped to verify that I fixed s weeping union, will put it back on. current hot water is domestic coil in oil boiler, linked to electric hot water tank. I have a small circ pump from top of boiler to coal heat exchanger, constant run,to keep oil boiler core hot, thus keeping domesticcoil hot. not great but works. I was thinkin to do the small plate exchanger to hot water tank.

Okay, I thought maybe you were still using oil or electric for DHW. If you could take that oil boiler out of the loop you would have less heat going into the basement, and maybe less up the chimney.
I have a 20 plate heat exchanger on my 50 gallon electric water heater and it makes all the DHW we need for a family of 4.

well we finally got some cold weather here in west nj. 20/38 last 3 days. I weighed 34lbs of ash, at about 13% so 261.53 l s coal over 3 days gives 87.17 lbs coal per day. At 200.00 per ton im at 8.71 per day for a happy house at 70deg and hot water. now using quick btu comp to oil, 87.17 x 12500 per/lb coal gives 1089625 btu, with oil at 138500 btu/gal gives 7.86 gal oil. current avg oil in nj is 3.50 per gal, so oil would be 27.53 per day, vs 8.71. im saving 18.82 per day. god bless the shiney rocks.

Filled the gopher hole with 3 ton. Plugging small drafts with spray foam today so the gopher does not get hungry.

My thermoplate boards for my raspberry pi have arrived. Each board gives me 8 thermocouple inputs, so I will have 16 possible inputs to monitor. Will post pics as I build this stack, and program it.

a rasberry pi, is a cheap swiss army knife computer for 50.00. it has built in wi-fi, and ethernet, and is 100% open. my plan is to install it in the boiler hut. I will then write a program to read all the sensors every 10 seconds, and dump to a file for review. I may dump the data to a website, so it can be viewed from a browser on any device. I may add the video module for live stream. right now im waiting on my current sensors. my end goal is to monitor everything, fan time, ash time, auger feed time, and all major temp points of my system. working on interface to the pid contoller so I can read or set that remote also. I also hope to put a thermocouple in the flapper/sight tube to monitor fire height.

Wow, this is a really ambitious project! Should be very interesting.
This sounds like it will be a full Coal Stoker Computer! That should make it real easy to convert you data into plots so you can have a full playback of when the the fan comes on or off relative to heat calls and all kinds of other data that we can only dream of.
Good Luck!
