welder1186 I placed the new tube sleeve on my tube today. Went fairly easy installing just took a bit of time to have it adjusted. Looks to me to run fairly true and if by I see it start to wear all I have to do is take it off flip it around and good to go again. As for the tube end repair sleeve will have to make the hole in the dog box a bit larger. Much thanks for your help. Jan

Glad it worked out for you. Did the shim gage work for the adjustment.

Yes used the gauge worked fine on lower end of sleeve but just a bit snug on upper end between sleeve end and drive gear just trimmed the gauge a bit.

Good to have you available for Axe parts and repairs.. I'm curious with your new bearing sleeve, do you also replace the bearings to account for the bigger diameter of the sleeve? Or do you readjust everything instead? I replaced with smaller bearings, you probably noticed in this thread.. For fan repairs, can you fix cracks? Then rebalance them to spin vibration free?

We have [email protected] 's Axeman up and running. We got the two house zones plumbed and wired last weekend. Filled it with water, pushed the air out of the zones and fired it up.

One question we do have, can you make a motor mount for a separate auger motor? The idea is to remove the figure 8 belt and drive the gearbox with separate motor and make it run only when the unit is ashing.

You could add a separate gear motor and eliminate the AA gear box. Gear motor would then have chain sprocket to drive auger chain sprocket. Can add electronic speed control by turning a dial. No belt and no pulley to ever touch.

I really wanted to mess around with mine and change speeds and drives but this thing ran so flawlessly, for the first time I decided to leave it alone. I just can't get over how hands off these things are!

True!
Even if not for speed control the fact of having auger idle when Not needed spinning sure makes sense.

I can re[air cracked fans and rebalance . I readjusted the upper support bearing and moved it up to compensate the larger diameter. Good idea about smaller bearings will look into that. Its about 1/8-5/32 adjustment using the new sleeve

Nice job everything looks great i can make that motor mount let me know and the specs for drive motor. The gear motor also has to run to feed coal.

When I refurbed my Axe, a crack was discovered in the combustion fan so I replaced it. New fans are kinda pricey, $235 if I recall correctly.. I still have the old one, I wonder if it'd be worth getting it repaired and rebalanced to have for a spare.

Call Axeman anderson company. Ask for the repair sleeve and new oversized bearings with bolts. Auger tube moves up 1/8”. So you may have to mess with dog box adjustment a bit. So do it when you don’t have much coal in the bin!
