Then the fun began...... shoveled and loaded up 36 five gallon buckets of rice coal and filled one 55 gallon drum, a half dozen ash tubs, and 8 of my plastic 5 gallon buckets. That was more work than removing the boiler from the basement ! :?
When I was delivering coal I had customers who stopped burning coal and asked me if I wanted it. The answer was always no.

We had one customer on William St. in Pittston. ;) Old Italian guy who lived a little past St. John's on the right if you are heading up the hill. There was an alley behind the house, it's steep incline and the alley was well below the street. He would get one ton of pea, two buckets at a time. I'd have to walk up slight incline about 30 feet, up 5 steps, into the house, another two steps and them perhaps 50 feet to the bin. Pick them up and dump them in the bin.... He had a second kitchen in the basement with a coal stove, presumably using it for canning etc.

He was paying for it and always gave a me nice tip. This was back in the 90's so it wasn't much of a big deal physically. The biggest issue was the buckets banging on my legs. That gets a little rough after a few trips.

I guess you will have to become the next coal stoker boiler hoarder! :D

-Don
I hope not :o. I'm going to go over both of them this summer, keep one for the shop and sell the other one.

That is not the case - Don knows he would never be be able to control himself with an EFM. He'd be evaluating 10 different air & feed rate settings per day.
And probably put a turbocharger on it too ! :D

I'm pretty sure I know which house it was. :D. I think my back was killing me more than my legs the next day...... plus I think my arms are two inches longer cause I didn't have any problems putting my socks on in the morning

I unloaded the trailer today and this one is looking good.

The base is solid, he replaced the motor a few months before he shut it down, and the auger is in nice shape.

One of the plates in the bowl is a little warped near the top but it should get me by for a few years.

I just read this post by Theo and immediately pictured you not only trying this but describing it.
