I figured it was time to start a new thread about this new project stoker boiler. That way I can go over everything that pertains to this one alone. As you may already know, Ziggy87 and me pulled 5 Axeman's out of the W.T. Storey Co. a few weeks ago. More on that here.
5 Axemans Recovered from W.T. Storey Co.
This is a look at our new project. It is a 1956 Axeman Anderson 130M that was modified by W.T. Storey. The modifications include; auger gear motor, ashing gear motor, 260M ashing assembly among other things.
I finally had a chance to get it outside and give it a good initial cleaning.
Ashing gear motor, auger gear motor and fan motor.
260M ashing assembly.
Larger than normal grate rollers that are on roller bearings.
Transfer head coal level sensors and a pipe reducer that housed a single aquastat. I'm still not sure why?
The problem area. The ring at the bottom of the fire chamber had burned out and was poorly repaired. Pretty easy fix for a competent welder.
We will have the DHW coil area plated over while it is at the weld shop.
The plan is to figure out if any of the W.T. Storey modifications are worth keeping. And we will be adding a few StokerDon modifications. This one will be a REAL Hot Rod!

Today we did more disassembly work on the 1956 Axeman 130.
Made a temporary bench to lay everything out on. The next challenge will be to get the DHW coil out and removed the fan from the fan shaft. I removed the grate rollers. These have sealed roller bearings mounted on a threaded shaft. I pressed one apart to have a look. I haven't yet decided if I will replace the bearings and use them as is or covert to the AHS type sealed rollers. No big rush on this project, we have at least 6 more months to get it done.

Even more disassembly...
Today we removed the DHW coil. The coil is good. This gave us a good look inside the boiler and, YUK! We will be removing all the pipe plugs and pressure washing this one inside and out. Because, YUK!!! We also got lucky and removed the fan from it's shaft without breaking it!
The fan shaft looks like new and the bearing box has just the right amount of play. Thats one thing we won't have to rebuild. It's too cold and there is too much snow on the ground to push this thing outside for a good washing this week. Maybe we can get at it next week.
