EFM AP350 with S15 auger. Received 4 ton of coal and broke a shear pin about 2 weeks later. I attributed it to the coal being wet. Coal is now dry. I cannot go a day without breaking a pin. It grinds then binds it up. Inside of the extension tube feels like the surface of the clading on my Avalanche. Time to change? There is no rust inside. Is this forum I noticed everyone puts the tubes together in the coupling. This one was installed with a gap under the coupling like the EFM instuctions show. Tubes end on a ridge inside the coupling with a 4" gap. Coal dealer assembled this way when the auger replaced. Looking for suggestions before I figure out and shovel to get the tube out with the coal in the bin.

The tubes have to be right against each other in the coupling. Fix that and see how much auger you have sticking into the coal...should be about 2.5 auger flights.

- Hand Fed Coal Furnace: Harman SF3500 reduced down to 3 grates connected to its own plenum

- Other Heating: Noth'in but COAL! Well, Maybe a little tiny bit of wood
Like Rob said, that 4" gap between the pipes is going to cause big problems. They should be completly butted up against each other with no gap. The whole coal feed system from the bin, to the fire pot should not have any edges that stick out into the coal flow.

I did that. Need to see what happens. It is an EFM part. Original efm manual shows it the same way as installed. Just curious why they show this and the manual is different.

I'm not sure why it would be different but what you have posted is from a parts manual. The picture that I posted is from the installation manual. It is possible that parts suppliers don't need to know how something is installed.

I'll believe your manual. You are correct it is not an installation manual. Look where parts catalog is from. Part numbers do not match anymore. I do not have a installation manual for the 350. Have older sales stuff and an owners manual. Boiler and stoker are from 1962. Coupling was put on by my coal dealer when I replaced the burner plates, augers, and pipes a few years ago. All were original except for the pipe into the bin. It has been working like that for about 3 years.
