I am greatly partial to the AHS systems but I want to see what the general opinion of the Coal Gun is amongst the boiler aficionados found here?

No experience, but, I almost bought one. Would have if they were certified. The state on Maine wants to see an approval decal & unless you pay 2 grand extra you don't get that approval with AHS.

The AHS is an upgraded version of the tried and proven Axeman Anderson design boiler.. the upgrades are electronic motor-driven ashing mechanism and an electronic timer to run the ashing..

The down grade for me is the lack of a standard auger feed, making loading the high coal hopper a weekly ordeal..

Both the AHS and Axeman Anderson are at the top of the list for efficient burning and use of the coal's heat.. You can't go wrong with either one.

Would it be safe to call the AA and AHS the top two boilers on the market?

Only if you qualify it to add "Anthracite coal stoker designed to burn pea coal". :-) There are many good Anthracite hand fired and stoker boilers on the market. The strong points of each vary. How important each is depends on your particular needs. The Antratube and Coalgun designs are the highest operating efficiency stoker boilers with documented tests to back up the claim. Even though the test was done 50+ years ago!

EFM and Keystoker make excellent coal boilers as well. Depending on your application any one may be better than the others..

The UL is testing the Coal Gun in the next three weeks. At least that is what I hear.
