Give me the name of a guy who welds coal boilers in my area and I'd certainly entertain having him do the job.

I'd have to pull the stoker out to get to it, even if it's repairable.

Joe,

Wherein SE PA ??

I'm in the Limerick/Royersford area. I just had a welder from Phoenixville weld the DHW flange on the back of my AA 260.

Big problem is going to be cleaning the area and access for the torch tip if MIG or getting the rod in if stick welding.

That is procedure for a low pressure steam boiler. Would it do the job for maybe ten times that pressure?

Scott, I figured out what you meant about 10x the pressure...

I think what Scott is referring to is the lines you were looking at on the directions, 5-8. Those are specifically for a low pressure system. That's not your boiler if you are running water and not steam.

Where in 14 years of service had the leak begun?

McGiever, 2 weeks ago, I'm assuming you meant "when."

look at the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th lines of the third picture you sent me...all having you heating the boiler partially filled...what do you think about that?
Steam boilers are "partially filled" all of the time, so there should be no concern that running the boiler that way for a brief period, per the directions, would cause any problem. As I understand it the product forms a durable patch as the boiler water gets evaporated while it leaks through the hole. Having the boiler only partially filled maximizes the concentration of the boiler liquid in the boiler water, and probably keeps the heat exchange surface in the vicinity of the hole hotter than it would be if the boiler were full. These conditions help to make the patch most effective.

Do you your self a big favor do NOT use any boiler sealer it will come back to haut you . Pending on what you use as it routs in your heating system and will start having gas problems in the water . Find you leak and if its a bad weld get a welder in to fix it . Willow grove is not that far from you
