I didn’t intend to side track from the original question. Could be time to adjust the anthrastat a bit. I had been monitoring the fire closely today. I am pushing it to its limits. When I referred to zones each zone is basically a drafty 1000sq ft house.

I went back up to 140 from 135. I also did a slight adjustment on the ashing rate. I’m still learning here. It only concerned me after I noticed it wasn’t ashing 15 minutes with it that high. It normally levels off but I assume with the temperatures today things change a bit. I am testing this 130’s limits.coaledsweat wrote: ↑Wed. Give that anthrastat a twist up.

Yes you are and your testing the limits of the coal feed tube lol there should be black coal coming out of the feed port and fire out around the outside of the pot, just like the pic I posted..

I was thinking about all this and it occurred to me there is a good possibility Axeman Anderson had the ash lever set at the point they did which is obvious on my 79 and the anthrastat at 140. It seems it’s the fail safe for the tests they did. Yeah you might waste some unburned coal when all130,00 btu’s are not being used but you also won’t have burning coal climbing into the auger when it calls for maximum btu’s.hotblast1357 wrote: ↑Wed. It won't burn into the auger, no air to feed it and it dies in the tube.

I’ll give it a day or so with factory settings. Maybe open a post next week if it’s still struggling to maintain fire height.coaledsweat wrote: ↑Wed. Dec. 11, 2019 7:40 pmIt won't burn into the auger, no air to feed it and it dies in the tube.

Did you use an Allen wrench to set the anthrastat? Turning the knob doesn't change the temperature setting, it just goofs up the calibration. The knob is only used to calibrate, you must adjust with an allen wrench.

I think the first 3 pictures look good. That last shot it to high like others have said. If it were me I would try 136/4 and give it 24 hrs to evaluate. If still to high try 137/3 and repeat until level stays similar to first 3 pics.
...oh never mind, I thought the pic of the high fire was from the op with the ASH.

They're Axemans and not AHSs, so no hysterisis setting w/o converstion to digital controls...

Indeed. I learned that the hard way. I actually had to recalibrate with information I found on another thread.coaledsweat wrote: ↑Wed.
